Kelly Thomas

Some of you have no doubt heard of Kelly Thomas.  Others no doubt have not.

Kelly Thomas was a homeless man, suffering from schizophrenia, living on the street in Fullerton, California.  In 2011, 6 members of the Fullerton Police Department beat him to death in the middle of the street, in front of witnesses.  The beating is captured on video.

A few days ago those officers were acquitted of all charges.  Thus setting a legal precedent.  That being that it is lawful for a police officer to exercise his discretion to deprive you of your life, without cause and without penalty, at any time of his choosing.

This man was tasered repeatedly, beaten, and eventually suffocated by 6 cops.

Why should you care?  Because the same thing can happen to you.

On some dark road, pulled over for speeding.  In some midnight “no knock” raid where the police have the wrong address.  Or even, as in Kelly’s case, in the middle of the street with people standing around watching.

The police no longer exist to serve and protect.  Their job now is to cow the public, keep people in line, and maintain order.  Because a police state requires order.  And if, at any time during your beating you raise your hands to defend yourself or ward off a blow, you will be charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The vast majority of the public being uninformed that the law explicitly acknowledges your right to lawfully resist an unlawful arrest, and to defend yourself, with deadly force if need be, from an assault, even if it is being committed by a cop.

What happened to Kelly Thomas is more important than your job.  it’s more important than your favorite tv show, or who will be in the Superbowl.  It’s more important than your house being foreclosed on or your car being repo’d.  It’s more important than anything going on in your life right now.  Why?  Because it represents a shift in the relation of the government (and it’s agents) to the populace.  It changes you from a free citizen to a slave.  You are subject to taking a beating, at the whim of the master, at any time of his choosing.

And you really need to stop and understand the next time you are thinking about calling the cops because your son is misbehaving, or your neighbor is drunk and out on his lawn in his underwear, or you believe a burglar may be snooping around your house…that when those police show up there is a very real possibility that someone will wind up dead or horribly wounded.  And that someone may be you.

Just ask the couple who called the police because their son was acting out.  Three cops showed up.  Two held him down and the third one shot him at point-blank range.

That could have been you…and your son.

Hail to the King

Recently the President of the United States, Barry Soreto, announced that he does not in fact need to wait for legislation to address his concerns regarding the health, education and prosperity of American citizens.  He has a pen and a phone, which according to him can be used to sign executive orders and convene Americans from all walks of life, respectively.

Callers to this morning’s news/talk program were divided in their opinions of this.  Thinking people oppose the gradual transition from a Constitutional Republic to a Monarchy.  Minorities supported Obama, without regard for what he does, because he is black.  While discussing the Constitutionality of the President’s actions a man called in to explain that the problem is that the hosts do not wish to recognize that Obama is in fact the President.  Obviously…because they are racists.

What this uninformed turd fails to realize is that all of us do in fact recognize that Obama is the President.  Everyone apparently, except for Obama.  He appears to believe that America is an Eastern Bloc, or South American banana republic, and he is the tin pot dictator.  This is evidenced by the fact that he continues to modify parts of the ACA by fiat, even though he has no authority to do so.  He has also chosen to simply not enforce the portions of our immigration law that he finds distasteful.  Meanwhile, his Justice Department sues states for requiring that a person casting a vote demonstrate that they are a legal citizen of the state in which they are voting, and that the person standing before the poll is actually the person who is registered to vote.  Which begs the question, if you cannot demonstrate that you are the registered voter in question, what is the point of voter registration to begin with?

We are on a very slippery slope.  Obama has already defied a federal judge’s ruling during the gulf oil spill fiasco.  Now, just two days after the Supreme Court indicated that he had overstepped his bounds in recess appointing fellow communists to the NLRB, he steps to the mic to essentially say, “You aint seen nothin’ yet.”

I am not simply an old man pining away for “the good old days”.  We are seeing real, and dangerous, changes to the method and manner by which our country is governed.  Some have referred to this time as the “post-constitutional period”.  I believe that characterization is accurate.

Rules in the Senate are changed when Democrats cannot get their way.  The President picks and chooses which laws he will and will not enforce.  An unelected bureaucracy publishes thousands of pages of new regulations every year which directly impact business and the citizenry.  These regulations are not subject to repeal.  You cannot vote these people out of office.  Many times you do not even know what the regulations are, until you find yourself being fined or imprisoned for violating them.

We have gone from the land of the free and the home of the brave, to a police state.

The DHS has cameras, in ever increasing numbers, in ever increasing circles, monitoring your every move.  The NSA is compiling data on your phone calls, emails, texts and internet activity.  The local and state police forces are being militarized; riding around town in MRAP’s, kicking down doors in the middle of the night.  Citizens are being shot and killed, raped, robbed, and assaulted by agents of the government which ostensibly exists to serve them.  This is not America!

Think about this for a second.  The government decides you need a service.  They are using your tax money to provide it.  But, if you say that you would rather do without the service and keep your money, you will be told that you MUST pay the taxes, or you will go to jail.  So ask yourself this question.  Who works for who?

If this trend in the executive branch is not curbed by the Congress, we are destined for the complete abolition of the Constitution.  Our future is to have Hugo Chavez or Castro style leaders, running a nation that more closely resembles Venezuela or Cuba than the United States.  And this best, last hope for humanity will vanish completely.

We fought a war in this country over federalism and states rights.  After one of the great battles of that war a great man, and President of the United States said:

It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

I regret to inform Mr. Lincoln that we once again stand on the precipice from which he delivered his speech.  We are at a crossroads in our nation’s history.  We will once again be free men, in a free nation, with a government of and by the people, serving the interests of the people and performing the functions which the document that created it enumerates; or will will return to the indentured servitude, serfdom and slavery from which this nation arose.

Democrats look out across the masses of the people and they see helpless, hapless, dependent people, sorely in need of help from on high.  And so they grow government.  They regulate and legislate, and when they cannot get legislation they simply proclaim what the law ought to be, and therefore is.  This is a dangerous course, already tried, already proven to fail.

The America I grew up in was the greatest nation on the face of the planet.  We were powerful.  We were respected.  We were innovative and driven.  We dealt with our friends with compassion and our enemies with resolve.  But above and beyond all of those things we were free.  Today, that is no longer the case.

You cannot travel without inspection.  You cannot attend public events without intrusive investigation.  You cannot walk down the street or be secure in your home without the threat that some thug with a badge will decide to exert authority over you.  You cannot make you own choices with regard to your health care and insurance.  And you cannot email your mother or call your friend without the possibility that those communications are being monitored.

I have had people with degrees and security clearances tell me, “I have nothing to hide, so I don’t care if they listen in on my conversations or monitor my emails.”  Well, I have nothing to hide either.  But this is the antithesis of the American Way.  We do not have to prove to the powers that be that we are NOT criminals or terrorists.  They have to prove that we ARE.  I do not have to justify my right to own a gun, or speak my mind, or assemble with like-minded individuals.  The government must demonstrate an overriding need to deny me these basic rights before they can in fact be denied.  Or at least that’s how it should be.

So, the next time you are standing in line at the airport and some high school drop out with a patch on his shirt has his hands down your 12 year old daughters pants…ask yourself this question.  Is this America?  Is this what we have become?  Is this what the Founders intended?

And the next time our Imperial President issues an edict without benefit of legislation duly passed by the representatives of the people, ask yourself this question.  Aside from the climate, what exactly is the difference between Venezuela and the United States?  For that matter…what exactly is the difference between Germany 1939 and the United States 2014?

All is Well

Good news America!  The government that spent 634 million dollars and 3.5 years to build a website that doesn’t work, is back!!

The news this morning had a traffic warning from some random woman getting her 15 seconds of fame by reporting that traffic might be tough today around the capital as, “Federal workers will be going in early and staying late because they are absolutely committed to getting the work done.”  Wow.  I wonder who paid her to say that… lol

Anyway, it’s back to normal day to day operations!

The Park Service can go back to staring at stones, monitoring bear crap, and being of little or no assistance, and stop arresting people who came to DC to see monuments erected in their honor.

The IRS can get back to giving special scrutiny to conservative groups and denying them their tax-exempt status.

The State Department can get its best and brightest back to work on covering up what happened in Benghazi, helping jihadists take over governments in the middle east, and misspeaking on trivial matters like Syria and chemical weapons.

The BATF can get back to kicking down doors and shooting people.  As can the DEA, DHS, and pretty much every other federal agency with an armed division (which is almost all of them).

Secret Courts can get back to issuing secret rulings which will be kept…you guessed it…secret.

The NSA can get back to tapping your phones, tracing your movements, downloading your contacts lists, scanning your emails and in virtually every other way invading your privacy.

The FDA can get back to closing down family farms because of food preparation/storage areas that do not meet their strict standards, while allowing a chicken processing plant to continue operations during a salmonella outbreak from chicken produced at that plant.

The EPA can continue to work to close down the coal industry, causing entire regions of our nation to become employment dead zones.

The Whitehouse can continue to lie about everything up to and including what time it is.

The Congress can get back to doing nothing.

Yes, it is a great day in America.  The furlough is over!  The shutdown has ended!  And now it is time to get back to work.  There are entire generations of Americans yet to be born that must be royally screwed, and we’ve precious little time!  Up and at ’em!




The Sky is Falling

So here we are in day 3 of the 2013 government “shutdown”.  And let me tell you, people are up in arms.

First, let me address the fact that the government is not in fact shut down.  81% of the government is operating according to Senator Rand Paul.  I am in fact, at work today as are a whole lot of other people.

Nevertheless, some of my more, how shall we say… moderate, associates are beginning to sound the alarm.  This shutdown is now impacting local small business!  There are real people being hurt here!

We are running a 1.5 trillion dollar deficit.  We are borrowing 40% of our spending from China.  We are on course to having a 17 trillion dollar debt by the time Obama leaves office, and we are adding the ACA with it’s trillions in new costs to that.  You’re right…real people ARE being hurt here.  Every day that the government just continues on with business as usual the entire country, and future generations, are being hurt here.

If you have ever dealt with the IRS when they were clearly wrong and you tried to get them to understand that…you may have dealt with some bureaucrat that sat on the phone with you explaining that there was nothing they could do to help you.  They may have even read to you from a law or regulation, while they told you there was nothing they could do to help you.

If the EPA has ever condemned your property or taken it by force because some owl lives in a tree somewhere on it, you may have gotten the same result while trying to work it out with them

In short, if you have EVER had to deal with any person representing an agency of our federal government, you may have found that in general, they didn’t give a crap about your problems.  They were not there to help, or to serve the public,.  They were there to clock 40 for 30 years and retire, and your problems weren’t their problems.

Well now they have problems.  And their problems are not my problems.  I am at work, and they are not.  And if something bad should happen to some of them as a result of not being paid, I will lose as much sleep over it as they do when a family is kicked off their property because of a tax lien or a spotted owl.

Do you realize that the Park Service brought people back off furlough to stand guard and attempt to deny citizens access to national monuments?  Does that make sense?  If the freakin guard is there anyway…why shouldn’t the people be allowed in?

This brings up a more fundamental question to me.  Who the hell do these monuments and parks belong to anyway?  It seems rather apparent that they belong to the federal government and we are simply allowed to look at them when the government says so.

People were kicked out of hotels at Yellowstone and told they had to vacate the park because the government is shut down.  What??  So now hotels can’t care for guests, restaurants can’t feed them, roads can’t support traffic, and bears can’t shit in the woods without the government?  Somebody better go check Old Faithful!  I’m sure the geyser stopped erupting since the Park Service is on furlough.  The waterfalls stopped running…. pavement lost its rigidity…hell the fabric of the universe itself may begin to unravel.

We are operating under a false premise here.  The federal government does not exist to provide jobs to people.  When a business closes up shop and lays people off or fires them we do not have days of reporting on it.  But now we do.  Why?  Because it’s taken for granted that once you sit your big ass in a seat on the government payroll you are employed for life?

“What will the people do?”  Oh I don’t know… what have the 2+ million people who have been unemployed everywhere else had to do for the last few years?

The Maryland/DC/Virginia region has been spared the economy that the rest of the nation has been facing for years.  Boohooing about facing a couple of days of it now is a bit unseemly.

The federal government was constituted to regulate interstate trade, provide for the national defense, and oversee international treaties.  Three words, “the general welfare” have been used to justify ALL the rest of what you see.

Yes I know people get put in tough spots.  I have been laid off in the past.  I know what it means to scrape by.  I have been poor.  I have lived in section 8.  I have had to make up child support that I couldn’t pay while I had no job.  But it breaks down like this.  If you walk in to a place and tell the man in charge that you want him to send home everyone that is not essential to the performance of the duties of the office…and 800,000+ people walk out… there’s a problem.

800,000!!  Really?  Is it possible that 2% of them are not only non-essential they are also not performing any useful function?  In other words, is it possible they are just “fluff”?

If it is possible…how about 3%?  4%?  what’s 5% of 800,000?  Well….it’s 40,000.  And if the average federal wage is 50k…  see where I’m going?

A friend of mine just expressed on her Facebook page that it is right to be concerned about your own welfare and that of your neighbors.  Let me express an old fashioned idea.  Perhaps we should be concerned about the well being of the nation.  Perhaps we should “Ask not what your country can do for you…”

Perhaps, in order to salvage the Republic, some people may have to be inconvenienced.  Some may even have to suffer.  Perhaps one of those will be me.  If so, I do not welcome it.  But I will bear it.  Because in the end I love this country, and what we see here is not what it was meant to be, what it is supposed to be, or what we should allow it to be.

If we need to shut it down for awhile to get things sorted out.  So be it.  And if some people suffer as a result, that’s unfortunate.  But let me throw a little DMX in here to wind this up.

Today is the Day

This morning is a momentous day in America.  Today is the day we all wake up, look around, and realize exactly how little impact the government shutdown actually has in our personal lives.

Social security checks are still going to go out.  Food stamps, welfare, unemployment…will all still be paid.  The military continues its mission.  Life goes on.  For the vast majority of Americans, nothing changes.

It’s also the day that the media will begin showing us all manner of “furloughed” federal workers.  Our heartstrings will be tugged on behalf of these poor, wretches…who will be taking a paid vacation for the next little while.  But the question only a few will ask, most will never think about, and no one will answer is….why do we have so many “non-essential” personnel on the federal payroll?

Yes, today is the day you get a glimpse of how much government we have that we do not actually need.

Today is also the day that the ACA kicks in.  Well…not the employer mandate.  And not for the people who received one of 1100 exemptions issued by Executive fiat (royal decree), and certainly not for Congress, the White House, or their respective staffs.  But for you every day schmoes out there…today is your day!

If you woke up in Mississippi this morning, there are no exchanges.  Not a single insurance company in the state decided to participate.

If you woke up in California this morning and you had an insurance plan through Humana, surprise!!  They left.

If you are one of the hundreds of thousands of people who got their hours cut back or whose employer dropped your health plan… boy have we got a deal for you!!  Somewhere between 50 and 75 percent more is what you can expect to pay.  Good luck!

Yes folks, today more than any other day in my lifetime, America gets to find out what happens when you elect European Socialists.  (Hint:  They adopt European Socialism)

You might want to start studying up on France, because that’s where we’re headed.  30% unemployment, taxes through the roof, smelly people running around…

Okay, I’ll give you that we’ve had smelly people running around for a long time.  But that’s beside the point.

It’s going to take time.  Rome wasn’t destroyed in a day.  But we’re on our way.

Thoughts on the Government Shutdown

Apparently, the nation is the government.  At least according to one democrat who said on the floor of the House that Republicans do not love the country, “Because if you did you would not be closing it down.”  So apparently, if the bloated, intrusive federal government is closed for a couple of days, America will cease to exist.

In the news today was the fact that one of the people inconvenienced by a government shutdown would be campers at National Parks, who will be sent home.  Apparently the woods cannot remain open, and citizens will be unable to pitch a tent without direct supervision and/or assistance from federal employees.  One wonders how the country was settled in the first place?  Who monitored the cowboys crossing the plains to insure that their tents met specs?  Who monitored the woods to make sure that if a tree falls in the forest there is ALWAYS someone there to hear it?

Employees at the Treasury Dept. are up in arms about the use of the term “non-essential employees”.  Apparently it has dawned on them that people might rightly ask, if you’re non-essential why are we paying your salary?  It also belies the fact that our government is bloated with all manner of unnecessary people.  Nearly a million of them by some counts.

The fact is that after the shutdown in 95 the first thing Clinton did was sign an order giving retroactive pay to those people who were furloughed.  So, while our government does all manner of things to destroy the economy, cost working men and women their jobs, increase our taxes, and force us on to health plans we don’t want, none of those things are true for them.

They have job security, are exempted from Obamacare, and when they get laid off for a week or so, they get all their pay anyway.

So here is the truth in a nutshell.

What we are actually doing is giving a paid vacation to a bunch of people who are, by definition, not essential employees anyway.  And the propaganda machine has convinced enough people that this is a disaster, that half the country is upset about it.

America will survive.  In fact, if we shutdown the government regularly, for long periods of time, America would be better off.  IMHO

The What?

Do you know how many federal agencies there are?

Do you have any idea how many “rapid response teams”, special weapons and tactics units, and heavily armed and armored “police” forces there are in this nation?

Neither do I.

Does that scare you a little?  It scares me.

How many of you are aware of the fact that the DHS recently purchased 1.2 billion hollow point rounds?  I have friends and colleagues who have pointed out that their officers need to train with their weapons, and therefore it makes sense that they purchase ammo in bulk.  Really?  I am a gun owner.  I practice with my weapons.  I do not know a single soul that goes target shooting with hollow points.  They are designed to essentially shatter on impact, doing as much damage as possible to a human target.  Paper on the other hand…they kinda punch right through and keep on going.  Besides…they’re more expensive than “range rounds”.

The Dept of Education put out a request for bids to supply them with 20 tactical shotguns.  I know classrooms are getting a little crazy these days, but are we skipping detention altogether and going straight to execution now?  Or are these weapons to be used on parents that do not help with homework assignments?

The EPA recently conducted a “commando style” raid on a camp of gold miners in Alaska.  Their purported purpose was to check for violations of the Clean Water Act.  When last I heard, water samples are taken with vials, not shotguns.

We are creeping ever closer to a totalitarian police state, very much like Soviet Russia.

Much like the Truman show, we are content to live our lives as they are because we are unaware that our freedom is an illusion.

As we continue to cede more and more of our liberties to our government in the name of “security”, we endanger the way of life we purport to be protecting.

The people speak out, they vote, they march, they boycott, they picket, they rally…  The government is not listening.

But rest assured, when you call someone, when you email someone, when you surf the web…the government is listening.

On October 1st, if nothing is done to stop it, Obamacare will go in to effect.  Ostensibly, the goal is to provide all Americans with access to affordable healthcare.  Anyone who believes that this will be the reality is fooling themselves.  Once the government has control of your medical records; once the government has panels in place to determine your eligibility for various procedures; the nature of the relationship of the citizen to the government will be forever changed.

The pieces and parts are already in place.  The beast coalescing before our eyes.  Like frogs in a pot of water, we sit unaware that the heat is rising.  The differences between the United States in 2013 and the DDR in 1977 are few, and pertain mainly to the language spoken.

I fear that my children will grow up in an America very different from the one I knew.  Not because of progress or innovation, but because they are not now, and never will be again, free.

Someone let ol’ Abe know.  Government of the people, by the people, for the people…has perished from the Earth.

(BTW, 70 is the answer.  There are 70 federal agencies with armed divisions.  See if you can name 20 of them without using google.)
